ECO Studies Program Credits
Carefully selected courses provide students with an enriched platform from which to view and understand the natural world and the tools necessary to become life long environmental guardians. The ECO Studies course package has recently been expanded to include options for students from all four secondary Pathways (Apprenticeship, College, University, Workplace). No matter what your background, if you have an interest in the Environment and want to break free from the confines of the regular classroom, the ECO Studies Studies experience is what you have been waiting for. A brief description for each course in provided below.
- Earth and Space Science (SES 4U) OR Forces of Nature (CGF 3M)
Students investigate the Earth as a planet and study the dynamic nature of natural processes that shape our planet. Students will gain a more rich perspective from which to view the natural world around them and how it works. Students taking SES 4U will also have the opportunity to explore the vastness of the universe beyond our planet and seek to gain an understanding of Earth's place in the cosmos.
- Environment and Resource Management (CGR 4M)
Students will learn the basics of ecosystem composition and explore the impact human activity has on the surrounding environment. Emphasis will be placed on the themes of sustainability and management of Earth's resources.
- Outdoor Leadership (PLF 4M)
This course will foster the leadership skills needed for students to design, develop and implement outdoor activities, promote personal fitness and realize their true potential. Outdoor Leadership will also strengthen the team-based atmosphere and enhance coordination and implementation of activity based learning in the other three courses.
- Grade 11 English - Indigenous Voices (NBE 3U or 3C)
This course will focus its curriculum on exploring a range liturature to fulfill the requirements of the compulsory Grade 11 English credit each stuent must attain to graduate from high school. Grade 11 Indigenous Voices uses novels, short stories, poems and other media authored by indigenous writers. The theme of much of this course will be centred around the close relationship that indegenous peple share with the natural environment and fostering a better understanding of Canadian aboriginal culture and teachings.
