ECO Studies Adventure Trips
Each year the ECO Studies class undertakes three major overnight adventure trips that serve to increase student’s proficiency in outdoor education skills and supplement learning across all program courses. Below is a description of the typical set of adventure opportunities that ECO Studies Students are able to experience.
1. 3 day - 45km Bruce Trail Hiking Trip: This trip allows students to connect with real "wilderness" in their backyard. Students hike from Burlington to Kelso Conservation Area in three days camping overnight at Mt Nemo Scout Camp and Rattle Snake Point Conservation Area.
2. 5 day Canoe Trip to Killarney or Algonquin Provincial Parks: This trip allows students to test their back country camping skills as well as develop proficiency in canoe paddling techniques. In Killarney students will also perform water quality analysis of several acidified lakes and incorporate their data into a summative report for their science and geography classes.
3. 3 day Camping Trip to the Bruce Peninsula: Students will have the opportunity to explore Bruce Peninsula National Park (UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve) as well as visit Quetican Observatory in Lions Head. The rich geologic, ecologic and glacial history of the area will be the educational focus for the trip.
